Configure layer properties and blend modes

Layer Settings Panel

The Layer Settings panel provides detailed control over the selected layer's properties.

Basic Properties

Name

Give your layer a descriptive name. Good names help organize complex shows:

  • "Base - Blue Wash"
  • "Chase - Rainbow"
  • "Accent - Strobe"

Enabled

Toggle the layer on or off. Disabled layers don't contribute to output.

Locked

Lock the layer to prevent accidental edits. Locked layers can't be moved or modified.

Timing

Start Beat

When the layer begins. Set to:

  • 0 - Start immediately
  • Positive number - Delay start
  • Leave empty for continuous

Duration

How long the layer plays:

  • Empty - Infinite duration
  • Number - Specific beat count

Fade In / Fade Out

Smooth transitions at layer edges:

  • Set time in beats
  • Layer fades from/to transparent
  • Creates smooth entrances and exits

Blending

Blend Mode

How this layer combines with layers below:

NormalReplaces layers below based on opacity
AddBrightens by adding colors
MultiplyDarkens by multiplying colors
ScreenBrightens, opposite of multiply
OverlayCombines multiply and screen
DifferenceSubtracts colors, creates inversions

Opacity

Overall layer transparency:

  • 100% - Fully visible
  • 0% - Fully transparent
  • Animate opacity for fades

Beat Pattern

Control when the layer is active within each bar:

Pattern Editor

An 8-step grid representing subdivisions:

  • Click steps to toggle on/off
  • Layer only plays on active steps
  • Great for rhythmic effects

Pattern Presets

Quick patterns:

  • All - Always on
  • Quarter - Every beat
  • Eighth - Every half beat
  • Syncopated - Off-beat pattern

Fixture Filter

Limit which fixtures the layer affects:

By Group

Select fixture groups to include or exclude.

By Selection

  1. Select fixtures in the Preview
  2. Click Use Selection
  3. Layer only affects those fixtures

Solo and Mute

Solo (S)

When soloed, only this layer plays. Other layers are temporarily hidden.

Mute (M)

Muted layers don't contribute to output but remain visible in the Timeline.

Layer Color

Set a color for the layer's Timeline representation. Helps organize visually:

  1. Click the color swatch
  2. Select a color
  3. The layer strip shows this color

Copying Settings

Copy to Other Layers

  1. Configure a layer
  2. Right-click, select Copy Settings
  3. Select target layers
  4. Click Paste Settings

Layer Templates

Save layer configurations:

  1. Configure all settings
  2. Right-click, select Save as Template
  3. Apply templates to new layers
