Layer Settings

Configure layer properties and parameters

The Layer Settings panel provides detailed control over the selected layer's properties.

Basic properties

Name

Give your layer a descriptive name. Good names help organize complex shows, for example "Base - Blue Wash", "Chase - Rainbow", or "Accent - Strobe".

Mapping

Select which position mapping this layer renders to. Each layer is assigned to a position mapping that determines which fixtures receive its output.

Speed

Control the speed multiplier for the layer's effect (0 to 4). A value of 1 is normal speed, 2 is double speed, and so on.

Beat offset

Shift the layer's timing by a number of beats (-4 to 4). Use fractional values for fine adjustment.

Controlled values

If the layer's effect exposes controlled values (via a Controlled Values node), they appear as additional settings. Each controlled value has a reset button to return it to the default.

Parameter mapping

The mapping panel lists every fixture in the layer's position mapping, grouped by fixture type. Each parameter on a group shows a master row with an effect output dropdown and a channel offset input. Expand the chevron on a group to override values for individual fixtures.

When fixtures in a group hold different values for a field, the master row shows "Mixed" and editing it applies the new value to every fixture in the group. A mapping is stored only after you change a default, so groups with everything left at their defaults add nothing to the project file.

Setting an offset without choosing an output writes a static bias to the DMX channel. Use this to nudge a channel by a fixed amount without driving it from an effect.

Toolbar

The panel toolbar provides quick actions:

  • Delete - Remove the selected layer
  • Duplicate - Duplicate the selected layer
