Design and configure position map layouts
Position Map Editor
The Position Map Editor lets you design the spatial layout of fixtures in a position mapping. You can position, rotate, and scale fixtures in a 3D viewport.
Interface
Fixture list
A side panel lists all project fixtures sorted by universe and address. Each row has a checkbox for multi-select, an action button on the right, and a context menu on right-click. Click the + on an unmapped fixture to add it to the active mapping; click the trash icon on a mapped fixture to remove it. The lightbulb icon toggles a fixture-wide highlight, which forces every channel of that fixture to full so you can identify it on stage.
Multi-part fixtures (Pixelbar 8-Stack, Octostrip MKII) expand into sub-rows, one per physical part. Each sub-row shows the part name and DMX address and carries its own +, trash, and lightbulb, so a single bar can be added, removed, or highlighted without touching the rest of the fixture. The parent row's checkbox shows a checked, indeterminate, or unchecked state derived from the parts: ticking the parent toggles all parts together, and ticking individual parts updates the parent state.
3D viewport
The main editing area shows:
- Fixture positions in 3D space
- Transform gizmos for moving, scaling, and rotating fixtures
- Configurable grid overlay
- Gizmo viewcube for orientation
Toolbar
- Axis Selector - Choose the active axis (X, Y, Z) for alignment and rotation operations
- Rotate - Rotate the entire mapping 90 degrees around the selected axis
- Align Start / Center / End - Align selected fixtures along the chosen axis
- Distribute - Distribute selected fixtures evenly along the chosen axis (requires 3+ selected)
- Match Scale - Apply the active fixture's scale to all selected fixtures
- Snap - Toggle snap to grid
- Transform Mode - Switch between Translate, Scale, and Rotate modes
- Labels - Toggle fixture label visibility
- Grid cells - Configure the number of grid cells
- Camera - Switch between Perspective and Orthographic views
Adding fixtures to a mapping
From the Mappings panel
- Go to the Mappings panel to create or select a mapping.
- Confirm the selected mapping becomes the active mapping in the editor.
Adding fixtures
Drag fixtures from the Fixtures panel into the 3D viewport. Fixtures are placed at the drop position on the grid. Click the + on a row in the fixture list to add the fixture without dragging.
Multi-part fixtures drop as a group. Each physical part appears as its own handle, with a master anchor at the centre. Click a part to select just that part, or Alt + Click to grab the whole group and move it together until you break it apart. To add only a subset of parts, expand the parent row in the fixture list and click the + on each part you want; the anchor and group_id are reused, so the parts you add stay grouped with any parts that were already mapped.
Selecting fixtures
Selection
- Click a fixture to select it. For a multi-part fixture, clicking a handle selects only the part under the cursor.
- Alt + Click a part to select its whole group.
- Shift + Click adds to the current selection.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Click toggles the resolved selection into the existing set.
- The active fixture is highlighted in orange; other selected fixtures show in yellow.
Transform
With fixtures selected, use the transform gizmo to move, scale, or rotate them. Switch transform mode using the toolbar toggle or keyboard shortcuts.
Multi-part fixtures
When you drop a multi-part fixture, every part starts in the same group and follows the master anchor as one. The anchor is a small handle drawn at the centroid of the parts. Right-click with the group selected to open a context menu:
- Break apart dissolves the group. Every part keeps its current position; the anchor stays at the live centroid as a free handle. Parts can then be moved independently.
- Group combines an unrelated selection into a new group.
- Join group merges the current selection into an existing group from the submenu.
- Leave group removes a single part from its group while leaving the rest intact.
Use Alt + Click first if you want to select one part of a group before applying any of these options.
Alignment and distribution
When multiple fixtures are selected, you can use the toolbar to align or distribute them along the active axis:
- Align Start - Align fixtures to the minimum position on the active axis
- Align Center - Align fixtures to the center position on the active axis
- Align End - Align fixtures to the maximum position on the active axis
- Distribute - Space fixtures evenly along the active axis (requires 3 or more selected)
- Match Scale - Apply the active fixture's scale to all other selected fixtures
Keyboard shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
