Design and configure pixel map layouts
Pixel Map Editor Panel
The Pixel Map Editor lets you design the layout of LED pixels and configure their DMX addressing.
Interface
Canvas
The main editing area shows:
- Pixel positions in 2D
- Color preview of current output
- Selection highlighting
- Grid overlay (optional)
Toolbar
- Select - Select pixels
- Draw - Add new pixels
- Erase - Remove pixels
- Pan - Navigate the canvas
- Zoom - Adjust view scale
Creating Pixel Maps
New Map
- Go to Pixel Map List
- Click + to create new
- Set dimensions (width × height)
- The empty map opens in the editor
Drawing Pixels
- Select the Draw tool
- Click to add single pixels
- Drag to draw continuous lines
- Hold Shift for straight lines
Predefined Shapes
Add common arrangements:
- Arrange > Line - Horizontal or vertical strip
- Arrange > Grid - Rectangular matrix
- Arrange > Circle - Circular arrangement
- Arrange > Custom - Import from file
Selecting Pixels
Selection Tools
- Click - Select single pixel
- Shift + Click - Add to selection
- Drag - Rectangular selection
- Cmd + A - Select all
Selection Actions
With pixels selected:
- Move - Drag to reposition
- Delete - Remove pixels
- Address - Set DMX addresses
- Group - Create a group
DMX Addressing
Auto Address
Assign addresses automatically:
- Select pixels to address
- Click Auto Address
- Set starting universe and address
- Choose addressing mode:
- Sequential - Left to right, top to bottom
- Snake - Alternating direction per row
- Column - Top to bottom, left to right
- Click Apply
Manual Address
Set specific addresses:
- Select a pixel
- In Properties, set Universe and Address
- Each pixel needs 3 channels (RGB) by default
Address Display
Show addresses on canvas:
- Enable View > Show Addresses
- Each pixel shows its address
- Helps verify correct patching
Pixel Properties
When pixels are selected:
Position
- X, Y - Canvas position
- Edit numerically for precise placement
Addressing
- Universe - DMX universe (1-based)
- Address - Starting channel
- Channels - Number of channels (usually 3 for RGB)
Channel Order
Set the channel order:
- RGB - Red, Green, Blue
- GRB - Green, Red, Blue (WS2812)
- BGR - Blue, Green, Red
- Custom orders available
Working with Strips
LED strips often use snake wiring:
Snake Mode
- Select all strip pixels
- Enable Snake in addressing
- Odd rows address left-to-right
- Even rows address right-to-left
Strip Direction
Set the physical direction:
- Select the strip
- Set Start Corner (where the data begins)
- Addressing follows the physical layout
Groups
Organize pixels into groups:
Create Group
- Select pixels
- Right-click, Create Group
- Name the group
- Groups can be addressed together
Nested Groups
Groups can contain other groups for complex layouts.
Import/Export
Import Layout
Load pixel positions:
- File > Import Pixel Map
- Select CSV or JSON file
- Positions are imported
Export Layout
Save for external use:
- File > Export Pixel Map
- Choose format
- Includes positions and addresses
