Set Up MIDI Control
Map your controller to Spectralite
Set Up MIDI Control
Hardware MIDI controllers can adjust parameters, trigger effects, and drive live performance.
Connect your controller
- Plug the controller into your computer via USB.
- Open Edit > Inputs > MIDI.
- The controller shows up in the Devices list on the left. If it is missing, click Reload devices.
Create a mapping
MIDI mappings are named groups of assignments. You pick a mapping for each device, and the mapping determines how the device's controls map to Spectralite actions.
- In the left pane, under Mappings, click Add mapping and give it a name.
- Select the mapping to open its assignment table on the right.
- Click Add assignment in the toolbar. The dialog shows the most recent MIDI message received.
- Move a knob, fader, or button on the controller. Its MIDI type, channel, and controller number appear.
- Click Apply to use those values, or fill them in by hand.
- Pick an action type and target (layer opacity, BPM, parameter value, and so on).
- Click Submit. The assignment activates immediately.
Back in the Devices list, pick the new mapping from the dropdown next to the controller. A single device can only have one active mapping at a time.
Common mappings
| Control | Maps well to... |
|---|---|
| Faders | Layer opacity, master dimmer |
| Knobs | Effect speed, color parameters |
| Buttons | Layer solo, effect triggers |
| Pads | Tap tempo, layer activation |
Tips
Create separate mappings per show or controller layout, and save them to the Library Manager to reuse across projects. Map your most-used parameters to the most accessible controls.
